A Semester Full of New Experiences!

May 08, 2025by: Ava R - United StatesProgram: IES Abroad Rome – Film & Media Studies

Studying abroad with IES Rome made so many of my dreams come true. I never regretted any opportunity I took advantage of: from taking classes outside my major to travelling to new cities. IES Abroad offered all kinds of support from start to finish, and I would participate in their program again if I had the chance.

I love Buenos Aires!

Studying abroad in Buenos Aires with IES Abroad in the fall of 2024 was an amazing experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff in Buenos Aires were incredibly supportive and made me feel like part of a family. They guided me through every step, from selecting classes to navigating any issues with my host family or living situation. Their support extended to everything, including medical assistance and travel tips. One of the highlights was the opportunity to meet amazing people from all over the United States and Argentina. I formed lifelong friendships and connections. The cultural immersion activities, like city tours and cooking with locals, allowed me to experience Argentine culture beyond the classroom. Whether it was sharing mate in a park, taking tango classes, or watching a fútbol match. I especially appreciated the integration of field trips into the curriculum, making learning feel dynamic and grounded in the real world. Buenos Aires is a vibrant and diverse city, full of history, art, music, and nightlife. Every barrio had its unique vibe, and I loved exploring them all. I also appreciated how affordable and accessible the city was for students. If you're considering studying abroad, I highly recommend this program. It pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best ways, helped me grow both personally and professionally, and left me with memories and friendships I’ll carry forever

Rome, the eternal city!!!

Being abroad was a truly amazing experience, but I would be lying if I said it was always glamorous. IES Rome was always helpful and provided support before, during, and after the program. There wasn’t a whole lot of information about what the first few days would look like, but once we arrived at the airport in Rome, we were greeting by friendly and eager IES staff. The first week was structured and layed out in detail so there would be no confusion. For me, even just being in a city was new, but I always felt supported by the staff and my fellow classmates. One of my biggest concerns was that I wouldn’t meet new people, but, especially during the first week, there were so many opportunities to meet new people. One of my closest friends from my time in Rome is someone I met just from us sitting next to each other on a bus on the second day of orientation. In all, being abroad will be the experience you make it, so always keep and open mind and try to stay as in the moment as possible.

Apartment. I loved the people that I lived with. We would do family dinners and became quite the family. But, I wasn't completely immersed in the language at home. I was out of my apartment and I only took classes in German...but I think I would have liked to speak the language more.

I had been taking French since 3rd grade, and wanted to finally put it to use. My mom also studied abroad in college, so it was something she strongly encouraged me to do as well.

I have always been interested in travelling and experiencing different cultures, and as far back as I can remember it was my dream to study abroad while in college. The only tough decision ended up to be deciding where.
