I’ll do it again and again

It’s important to make the people understand what is the purpose of the rescue center and why we can’t release right away the animals. It was an amazing experience and I’ll do it again and again everything I’ll have the opportunity. Thanks again.

Exceptional for the Flores program; coordinators friendly & attractive, I learned a lot about local life, I felt useful doing the project. Good team in Flores. They made the experience really wonderful.

More than just orangutans

This project was very high on our volunteer abroad bucket list due to being able to work with orangutans. However with all the required injections and pre-planning to arrive and then to have no interaction and a lot of precaution at the project made us walk away disappointed. There are so many more animals than just orangutans. There are primates, birds, reptiles, snakes and crocodiles. You will be very surprised at the extremely diverse wildlife sanctuary this place is. Yes the orangutans are the highlight but you will easily fall in love with the baby sun bear! The week is split in two with the first half being birds and reptiles and the second being orangutan and primates. Morning tasks is cleaning the enclosures, preparing food and feeding the animals. Afternoon tasks include enrichment for the animals. Prior to arriving at the project you need to have Hep A & B injections. You also need to do TB X-ray either before arrival or at the project. Some injections need 4 weeks to administer so plan ahead! With all the injections, no interaction and also having to wear masks and gloves the entire time, it's hard to recommend this project. Date volunteered: June 2016 Recommended time spent here: 1 week Living conditions: Twin Share Bedrooms, cold showers WiFi: Very Average Vegetarian friendly: Yes Additional Notes: If you are travelling with an unmarried partner you will by law have to sleep in separate rooms. Thank you to Go Eco for allowing us to experience this incredible volunteer project in Bali. Our opinion is, as always, our own.
