<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?</h3>
<p>We’ve always had a passion for travel and experiencing new cultures, but we wanted to do something more meaningful than just being tourists.</p>

<p>What made our experience extraordinary was how smoothly everything went, thanks to the support of TEFL Madrid Academy.</p>
<p>We not only gained valuable teaching skills but also made lifelong friends from around the world. The combination of professional growth, exploring a beautiful country, and sharing these moments as a couple made our time abroad truly unforgettable.</p>
<h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>The staff at TEFL Madrid were fantastic! They guided us through the entire process, from helping with visa applications to finding the perfect accommodation.</p>
<p>They were always available to answer questions, offer advice, and provide extra support whenever we needed it. Their genuine care and dedication made us feel supported every step of the way.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>If we could do one thing differently, we would have started learning Spanish before arriving.</p>
<p>While we picked up the basics quickly, having a better grasp of the language from the start would have made our transition even smoother. It would have allowed us to connect more deeply with the locals and feel more integrated right away.</p>
<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>A typical day started with a morning coffee together at a local café before heading to our teaching assignments. We both taught different age groups, which made each day unique.</p>
<p>After work, we'd explore a new part of Madrid, visit a museum, or enjoy tapas with friends. Evenings were spent lesson planning or simply soaking in the vibrant nightlife of the city.</p>

<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>In our free time, we loved exploring Madrid’s diverse neighborhoods, trying different restaurants, and taking weekend trips to nearby cities.</p>
<p>We also enjoyed spending afternoons in the beautiful Retiro Park, relaxing with a book or having a picnic. Traveling around Spain was another highlight, allowing us to experience the country’s rich culture and history together.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>We stayed in a shared apartment provided by TEFL Madrid Academy, and it was perfect for us.</p>
<p>The best part was living with other teachers, which created a sense of community and made it easy to share experiences and advice. The location was central, allowing us to explore the city easily and make the most of our time in Madrid.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>Future participants should know that the program is intense but incredibly rewarding. Be prepared to work hard during the training, but know that the support from TEFL Madrid is always there.</p>

<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3>
<p>The biggest benefit of traveling abroad is the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.</p>
<p>It pushes you out of your comfort zone, helps you develop adaptability, and opens your mind to new cultures and perspectives. We’ve gained valuable teaching experience, made lifelong friends, and shared incredible memories as a couple that we’ll cherish forever.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>Our time abroad has made us more confident, adaptable, and open-minded.</p>
<p>It strengthened our relationship and gave us valuable teaching experience that will benefit us in the future. We’ve also developed a passion for travel and exploring new cultures, and we feel more prepared to take on any challenges that come our way.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel means immersing yourself in a new culture, forming genuine connections with people, and giving back to the community.</p>
<p>It’s about more than just sightseeing – it’s about learning, growing, and making a positive impact. For us, meaningful travel was teaching English, building relationships, and experiencing Spain in a way that went beyond being tourists.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?</h3>
<p>If I’m entirely honest, one day I just decided to. I don’t know if it was some post I saw or something that reminded me of it, but I was determined ever since.</p>
<p>There wasn’t much inspiration—I had just always wanted to go somewhere, and so I did. I had always had that 2010’s tween love of France (everything Eiffel Tower and poodles), so it just made sense for me to go where I had always loved!</p>
<h3>Why did you choose <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/isa-international-studies-abroad rel="" target="_self" class="link"><ins>ISA by WorldStrides</ins></a>?</h3>
<p>I studied abroad through ISA, and I did so because of how supported I felt within the program. Their website had all of the information that I needed, so I felt comforted knowing that I wasn’t just being thrown into another country and told ‘good luck’.</p>
<p>I had continual contact with the program supervisors both in Paris and in the United States, so I knew I was in good hands.</p>

<h3>What was your favorite part about Paris, France?</h3>
<p>The people! Most of the negatives I heard about France were the rudeness, especially to Americans, but that couldn't have been further from the truth.</p>
<p>I felt welcomed throughout the entire city, especially in my home arrondissement. I became a regular at many restaurants and cafes and even made friends with some of the wait staff!</p>
<p>As long as you remain kind, they will be kind in return.</p>
<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>My ability to balance school life with my own personal traveling wants truly made my experience extraordinary. Even though I feel as if I learned more than I ever have, I feel that a good majority of the learning happens outside the classroom when you study abroad!</p>
<p>Just getting the time to experience life around me, as I wanted to truly elevate my time spent in Paris.</p>
<h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>Local staff supported me in so many ways throughout my program. From weekend excursions to helping me print out my Olivia Rodrigo tickets right before the concert, they were with me every time I needed them.</p>
<p>They ensured that I was safe and educated about the new world around me, and were constantly available when needed.</p>

<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>I wish I would have traveled outside of Paris more! I spent one day in Fontainebleau, and even though it was similar to Paris, it had its own unique charm.</p>
<p>Many of my classmates went to other countries, and I wish I would have done the same. Travel across Europe is so inexpensive, and you get to see so much more!</p>
<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>My typical day began at around 7:40 a.m.—leaving me just enough time to get to class via the metro. I frequently opted to grab breakfast at Gare du Nord, but my host mom always made sure that it was available to me.</p>
<p>I took my beloved Line 4 to the Université de Catholique, where I then had my intensive French class until noon. Soon after, me and other girls from my program would grab lunch together, always trying out different spots around the area and sometimes venturing even further for a good bite.</p>
<p>I loved to use the time between lunch and my next class to check out nearby shops—I always made sure to scour jewelry stores and pick up the most unique pieces. Thanks to the metro, I could usually go a few arrondissements away and be back within the hour—leading to some amazing finds.</p>
<p>From there, I went to my art and architecture class—the absolute highlight of my day. We went all around the city, going to museums and studying the architecture around it. The knowledge I learned was truly invaluable, and I couldn't have imagined going to the museums in any other way!</p>
<p>Then, it was my free time for the night. Usually, I went home and ate dinner with my host mother and my roommate—always having the most amazing food and bread.</p>
<p>Dinner typically lasted a few good hours as we talked about our days, our thoughts on our time so far, and our plans for the week ahead. Around nine was my 'wind down' time, which typically consisted of walking down to Hôtel du Nord (an amazing spot to check out!) and having a mocktail with my roommate while we people-watched.</p>

<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>I enjoyed exploring the arrondissements around me. On my free days, I typically would decide on one specific place I wanted to visit, go there, and then explore the surrounding neighborhood.</p>
<p>One thing that I loved about Paris is how safe I felt there. While of course I took the necessary precautions, as long as my phone was charged, I felt confident to go anywhere my heart desired.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>I stayed in a homestay! I loved everything about it, if I’m entirely honest—it feels impossible to just pick one.</p>
<p>If I absolutely had to, though, I would say it would be the closeness I felt to the culture. I stayed in the tenth arrondissement, and the neighborhood was rather college-esque, so there was always something happening.</p>
<p>Talking to my host mom also gave me a much better insight into the culture of Paris, letting me in on things that I wouldn’t have otherwise been privy to—things like their actual diets, way of living in the smaller apartments, and so much more.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>Know that you’re not alone! My program made meeting others so easy—not only in classrooms but also around Paris.</p>
<p>They gave us the needed skills to navigate city life and help us feel much less lonely in a time that can sometimes feel so isolating. Take advantage of these opportunities! Go on the excursions, talk with your peers, it will be so worth it in the end!</p>

<p>I absolutely would! As I’ve said, ISA provides so much support—I knew I was safe, and I always felt confident that any issues I had, I could bring to the staff in Paris.</p>
<p>I also loved the options I had for my classes. Their partnership with the Institut Catholique de Paris immersed me in university life, as well as helped me meet people from all over the world.</p>
<p>I also loved the class I took directly with them—I attended the art and architecture class, and got to see so many museums that would have never crossed my path otherwise. Not only did I just get to see them, but I was also guided through the museums and streets of Paris with a professor who was so well-versed in the city around her that it was truly like nothing else.</p>
<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3>
<p>The biggest benefit of traveling abroad is expanding your worldview. You may think you understand a culture, but you don’t until you actually live there.</p>
<p>It opens your mind to so many other ideas and experiences that there is truly nothing else like it. Even in the single month I was in Paris, I felt that I learned more than I had in my nineteen years alive!</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>My time abroad has impacted my life in so, so many ways. It completely changed my outlook on my time in university.</p>
<p>I used to be very reserved, fearing the unknown and staying away from putting myself in any sort of stressful situation, but now I’m the complete opposite. I frequently find myself thinking, ‘I literally went to France alone, I can do this’, and push past almost all of my anxiety!</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>To me, meaningful travel means doing what you love—prioritizing your own needs, immersing yourself in the culture around you, and making sure your wants are met.</p>
<p>This is why I loved solo traveling. I got to do what I wanted, to see the sights that I wanted to see, and make friends with locals around me all on my own time.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?</h3>
<p>After a few years of studying in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, I felt the need to have a new experience abroad. Moving to a new country and the "getting out of my comfort zone" feeling that comes with it felt like the right step.</p>
<p>I chose South Africa specifically because some of my closest friends and my sister had been living there for a while and always spoke very highly of it.</p>
<h3>Why did you choose the <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/roots-interns/programs/ngo-event-coordination-internship-in-cape-town-189705 rel="" target="_self" class="link"><ins>NGO Event Coordination Internship in Cape Town</ins></a> program?</h3>
<p>I had been interested in experiencing the NGO industry for quite some time, so when I saw the possibility of combining my passion for event organisation with NGO work, it seemed like the perfect fit.</p>
<p>Projekt Ubuntu's mission of helping communities of different townships in Cape Town through development and events really resonated with me.</p>

<h3>What was your favorite part about South Africa?</h3>
<p>One of my favorite parts about South Africa is its people. Despite all the difficulties they face, the generosity and happiness they spread are beyond inspiring.</p>
<p>Furthermore, I find the diversity of cultures within the same country fascinating. Lastly, the beautiful nature that the country has to offer is definitely one of its biggest highlights.</p>
<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>Many things made my experience abroad extraordinary, first of all, the beautiful people that I have met.</p>
<p>From the staff of the organisation where I did my internship, to the Masiphumelele community and all the different friends I made along the way, made my experience absolutely special.</p>
<p>Another aspect is the internship itself. Helping an organisation grow through my work in events and interacting with the community has taught me so much about myself, and through them, I have been able to get a different, more meaningful perspective on life.</p>
<h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>Throughout my program, I was always supported by my organisation, Projekt Ubuntu, by giving me the freedom to take initiative when it comes to the different tasks ahead.</p>
<p>They also provided me with the necessary help whenever I encountered difficulties. They made me feel at home from the very first moment, which is something truly special considering that I moved to Cape Town without knowing anyone and being on the other side of the world, far away from my family and friends.</p>
<p>While staying at the Yoga Shala, the venue hosting Projekt Ubuntu's interns, I felt like I had found a home away from home.</p>

<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>I wish I could have done a bit more travelling around South Africa. However, I did experience the Garden Route when my dad and aunt visited me during my internship, which was a beautiful experience.</p>
<p>Another thing I would have done differently is try a bit harder to learn the local language, Xhosa, spoken in the township where Projekt Ubuntu operates, Masiphumelele.</p>
<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>My day would start with waking early and going to the gym or for a swim in the ocean. Afterwards, I would have a meeting with my manager from the organisation to plan the day ahead, upcoming events, or evaluate my work.</p>
<p>After a nice lunch at one of the many restaurants in the area, I will drive to the township to spend a few hours of the afternoon with the kids, doing all kinds of activities.</p>
<p>The evenings consisted mostly of a shared dinner with the other residents of the Yoga Shala, and ending the day with a drink somewhere or a pool game.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>During my free time, I would exercise, go for a swim in the ocean, or drive to Cape Town's city center to meet with friends that I made over the weekend while going out or walking around the city.</p>
<p>I feel like I found a great balance between work and free time which definitely made my overall experience more enjoyable.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>As mentioned earlier, I stayed at the Yoga Shala during my internship with Projekt Ubuntu. This beautiful house is situated 5 minutes away from the township of Masiphumelele and hosts not only Projekt Ubuntu interns but also those from other organisations.</p>
<p>Candi and Sidney, the owners of Yoga Shala and founders of Projekt Ubuntu, ensure that everyone feels at home by cooking delicious food that we all enjoy together at dinner time. They also always make sure to provide help when needed and share their fascinating life stories.</p>
<p>They played a massive part in making my experience so incredible, and I will forever see them as my South African parents.</p>

<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>The NGO industry is a tough one, and saying that it is an easy job would be lying. There are many challenges, and frustration can build up when not being able to achieve certain things due to the limited resources.</p>
<p>However, it is the most fulfilling and meaningful experience one could have, as you truly feel a real purpose behind all your work. Moreover, having those limited resources allows one to use creativity and problem-solving mentality to the fullest, which are two extremely important skills to develop, in my opinion.</p>
<p>Additionally, the great support you will receive from the organisation will help tremendously and make your integration much quicker than you might think. Lastly, the life lessons you will learn from this experience are precious.</p>
<h3>Would you recommend your program to others? Why?</h3>
<p>Yes, definitely. As I just mentioned, this program offers the possibility of making a real impact on people with your work and skills.</p>
<p>Moreover, it allows you to engage with a community rich in culture, values, and many other aspects. You will learn so much about yourself and get to meet extraordinary people on the same journey as you are.</p>
<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3>
<p>The biggest benefit of travelling abroad is getting to know yourself through the meaningful experiences and challenges you face. By leaving your known environment, you can only expand your views on things and learn through all the different types of people you meet.</p>
<p>Next to this whole self-development aspect of it are the amazing memories that will be carried on with you forever.</p>

<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>Having this experience has allowed me to look at life through different lenses. Being grateful for all the things in my life that I would take for granted, such as being healthy, having a home, food, or being able to go to school.</p>
<p>Another aspect is developing a problem-solving mentality. The people from the township have to face many challenges daily. However, you would barely hear them complain but rather see them taking action towards finding solutions to the problems they are facing, and that was very inspiring.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>To me, meaningful travel means travelling with a purpose, whether that purpose is clear—like doing these kinds of internships—or travelling to find a purpose.</p>
<p>While travelling, many valuable lessons can be learned through experiences such as meeting other people and trying to integrate into different cultures. These can then be processed and applied when returning home.</p>
